The Quark is Petzl's most versatile ice axe, designed for general alpine climbing, more technical mountaineering and ice climbing. Like all modern axes it is designed to be used leashless and leashes are not supplied.
Its modular form means that it can be adapted to the terrain whilst in use, so the Trigrest can be slid up the shaft and out of the way on easy ground while the Griprest can be flipped up into a vertical position to make it easier to plunge the shaft on steep snow slopes, and the Ice Pick (as supplied) is suitable for both pure water ice and Scottish mixed.
- Shaft is curved below the head and the Griprest handrest at the bottom of the shaft protects the hand on ice climbs.
- Shaft has a steel spike and is straight enough for use as a standard ice axe.
- Shaft is hydroformed for optimal grip in the middle of the shaft, for snow gullies.
- Over-moulded, bi-material handle provides good grip while insulating from the cold.
- Trigrest and Griprest handrests make for a relaxed grip on difficult sections and prevent bruising of the knuckles.
- Trigrest upper handrest is height adjustable without tools - if the Trig part isn't wanted it can be removed using an Allen key and the Rest part tightened into place.
- Griprest lower handrest folds away easily for planting the ice axe in snow.
- Ice Pick is tapered at the tip (3.3 mm) and versatile across all types of terrain: snow, ice and mixed.
- Compatible with Petzl Masselotte weights to modify the balance and improve the inertia of the ice axe.
- Entirely modular head allows the technical aspects of the ice axe to be adjusted and other parts fitted such as Petzl Pur'Ice Pick and Mini Marteau, etc.
Certifications: CE, UIAA. Both Pick and Shaft are T-Rated (Type 2).
Materials: aluminium, steel, glass fibre reinforced plastic.
Weight: ca 550g but can be reduce to 465g by removing hammer or adze and Trigrest.
