Sport climbing is rock climbing where preplaced bolts are used for protection rather than self placed runners (wires, nuts and cams). It has a completely different set of "rules" to trad climbing and has evolved to a high level on the Continent where many of the crags are limestone and would be difficult to protect by traditional means. Although there is some sport climbing in the UK, perhaps its most accessible cousin are the many UK climbing walls where sport climbing techniques (and grades) flourish.
