A WhisperLite that will run on standard screw threaded gas canisters as well as liquid fuel. Based on the newly upgraded WhisperLite™ chassis featuring improved stability, lighter weight and simplified maintenance, it burns white gas (Coleman Fuel), petrol, paraffin (kerosene) and canister gas.
Patent-pending AirControl™ technology creates the optimal fuel/air mix for the best performance with canister gas, white gas, kerosene and unleaded gasoline and delivers high performance across all fuel types.
Gas canisters can be inverted on the stand provided into liquid feed mode which delivers better cold weather and low-fuel performance with a more consistent output over the life of each canister.
Lightweight aluminium mixer tube, extra-stable stainless steel legs and refined design keep weight to a minimum.
It is important to change the jet if you are changing fuels but this is fairly easy to do. The three different jets are stamped:
UC: Gas Canister.
UG: White Gas/Petrol.
UK: Kerosene/Paraffin.
It is also necessary to change the fuel adaptor. There is a pump fitting for White Gas/Petrol and Kerosene/Paraffin and there is a different fitting for Gas Canisters. The tool need to do both these jobs is provided but we suggest doing them in a workshop first as the stoves come very tightly fitted from the factory and a vice/molegrips and a decent spanner may be needed in the first instance. The stove comes set up for gas canisters.
Like all MSR stoves, the Universal is simple to maintain and uses self-cleaning Shaker Jet technology and redesigned leg assembly to facilitate fast cleaning and easy maintenance in the field.
Included are the stove, liquid fuel pump, gas adaptor and canister stand, and a windshield and heat reflector. There is also a good stove bag with a handy zipped compartment for keeping jets etc in. NB gas canister and fuel bottle are not included and must be bought separately.
The stove, windscreen, bag, and spares weigh 400g. The pump adds another 86g. To this needs to be added the weight of a gas canister or full fuel bottle.
