A very lightweight waterproof and totally unbreathable vapour barrier sleeping bag liner. The idea is that on extended camping trips in continuously poor conditions, your damp sweaty clothing will eventually make your down sleeping bag wet and you will then start feeling the cold really badly. By using a vapour barrier liner inside the bag and a bivi bag outside (even when in a tent), your sleeping bag will stay 100% dry and so keep you warm. The downside is that you get a bit sweaty, but it's easier to dry your clothes out than your sleeping bag.
Particularly suited to very wild camping in the Polar regions, South Georgia, the Scottish Highlands in winter etc.
