A selected alpine climbing guide to the area often known by Brits as the Dauphiné. It includes such major peaks as the Meije, the Barres des Écrins, Mont Pelvous and the spectacular 'Lord of the Rings' peak otherwise known as the Aguille Dibona. Major centres are La Bérade, Ailefroide, Les Etages, Champarent, St Christophe-en-Oisans and La Grave. It is probably the second most popular alpine area with British climbers - and rightly so.
A good guide in the usual AC style - ie you have to put a bit of work into it yourself! It includes information on rock climbing, ice climbing and the local via ferrata.
Lots of monochrome photo topos and a few colour action shots.
By John Brailsford.
Plastic cover, marker ribbon, 15cm x 10.5cm, 403 pages.
Published 2002.
ISBN: 0-900523-63-8.
NB The sub-heading Queyras is a bit of a misnomer as the guide actually only covers one small area of that range - Ceillac, a particularly pleasant venue that appears in the ice climbing section on page 280.
