A beautiful guide to alpine climbing in the Mont Blanc Massif describing 80 routes, rock, ice and mixed, in the lower to middle grades (up to TD- and F6a). Some ski mountaineering routes are described too.
The guide is fabulously illustrated throughout with both full colour photo-topos and excellent line diagrams as well as good clear maps. Lots of action shots too.
This is the second edition of this very comprehensive guidebook with descriptions of snow, ice and mixed routes, classic variants and spring ski-mountaineering routes. It concentrates on a selection of routes of 'medium' technical difficulty and covering the whole of the Mont Blanc range, including the mostly rock routes on the Aiguilles Rouges.
There are technical notes covering safety and conditions; approach; hut information; gear; and maps.
As a guide, it gives you plenty to go for and provides and excellent introduction to the range, but many British alpinists will wish that they had cut out the action shots and included more routes, especially more of the classic TDs and lower grade EDs.
